The Word to the World

Set Free Correspondence Ministry has served Wisconsin inmates since 1976 when it’s work  was started by John and Marilyn Daniels.  Set Free was and remains an affiiliate with ECS Ministries, formerly Emmaus Correspondence School, which has produced correspondence courses for more than 60 years.  As the largest correspondence school in the world delivering over 1 million courses annually to over 127 countries, ECS works with prison/jail ministries like Set Free, as well as foreign missions and domestic churches, to bring some of the best nondenominational studies on the Bible to the world.

Courses are offered FREE OF CHARGE to inmate-students while they are incarcerated and for up to a year after release.  Even the postage is provided if institutional policies permit.  Prayerful support for this work comes through believers and in some cases former inmate-students, all of whom are stirred by the Spirit of God to share in this work.

In 2010, the Daniels retired from the ministry and the decision was made to move the work for inmates back to local instructors with whom they worked for years.  Dennis Hill, who started urban ministry work to primarily serve the Spanish-speaking community and incarcerated and released inmates, called Boundless Partners, has been an ECS student and instructor with Set Free  for over a decade, until he was called to serve as the prison coordinator for the State of Wisconsin in 2010.  He has participated in foreign mission work, recently in Haiti in the days following the devaststing earthquake of January 2010, and has served as consulting editor of the Christian Courier, America’s longest running Christian newspaper, for 2-1/2 years.

With a team of volunteers from a variety of faith groupos, assemblies and churches who, themselves, are committed to “remembering those in prison, as if confined with them”  (Hebrews 13:3), the delivery of the Gospel of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and over 140 courses featuring sound, Biblical instruction and often measurable Christian growth continue to flow into prisons, jails, half-way houses and detention centers where lives are changed by the love of Christ most every day.
